Canvas bag for a Theodolite. Used for carrying Theodolite when it is assembled. Or could be bag for surveyors chain. Drawstring rope top. Rectangle shaped with rounded bottom. Very dirty and stained. Was contained inside Theodolite case between the wood lid and leather outer carry case. Theodolite is catalogued separately as ARM 22.169. Theodolites allow a surveyor to fix a position on the surface of the earth, marking latitude, longitude, and height above sea level, and then map out roads, towns, and plots of land.

Oliver Claude Raymond (1895-1980), was a licensed surveyor and lived in Albury from around 1920 to 1937. Oliver's career as a surveyor was utterly disrupted by the Great Depression; he resumed it post-war as a "temporary" surveyor with the Department of the Interior for about 15 years and after that in private practice in Victoria.
While practising in Albury, Oliver did much work in and around Holbrook, NSW, surveying the street layout of that town. There is a Raymond Street in the centre of the town which was named after him. Oliver met his wife Eunice Weil at a musical soirée in Albury. Originally from Gladesville, Eunice was a teacher at Albury High School. They married in Sydney on 18 August 1928. Their daughter Barbara was born in Albury in 1930, and their son Oliver junior was born on 7 February 1939, after the family moved to Melbourne. Advertisements in the Albury Banner and Wodonga Express show that O. C. Raymond, Licensed Surveyor, had an office in the Justices Building, Dean Street, in 1920, and in 1922 his office was in the Beehive Chambers building, Dean Street.
While living in Albury, Oliver participated in tennis and golf, and was secretary of Albury Rotary Club in 1930, when Percy Dutton Burrows was president.  After moving to Melbourne, newspaper articles report that he stopped in Albury to visit friends when travelling through the town.
